Hillary Plogue
While Hillary talks a big game she can be a little insecure. Her bravado is often a subconscious effort to conceal her discomfort. But Hillary has come to realize the inevitability of the truth and she understands, at least, that her insecurities are pointless.
There is very little that Hillary doesn't know about. She can frequently appear rather kind of rude. She has a big heart and cares a lot for basically everyone. She relentlessly looks as though she's in a hurry. She really knows how to express herself. She is a loyal friend who will always be there for you. She has a zealousness for heartwarming romance. She is proficient in math and science. She was socially cultivated as one of the Golden Oprhans of Mountain Viewtopia.
Hillary likes consulting someone in her family on important matters, a good dramatic film, and taking a long lunch while listening to the sounds of Latin music. Regardless, she doesn't enjoy getting other people's opinions before forming her own, the painful noises of country music, or bothering to read autobiographical material. Dining on cooking, consuming episodes of Hunter x Hunter, and wrapping up some SEO are usually a large chunk of Hillary's typical activities.
Unlike many of her orphan siblings, Hillary was not a member of the expedition to Strange Mt. Fuji shortly before its eruption in 2041. She knew something bad was coming, and that the trip would endanger everyone's lives, and refused to go out of protest. While fear for her own safety contributed to her decision, fear for her siblings gravely outweighed it. She never quite found a way to abandon her survivor's guilt. She couldn't have done anything more—or anything differently, for that matter—but she never stopped punishing herself for the unsettling future she never had any chance of controlling.
Sometimes it's hard to watch what people do and feel, knowing that nothing can be done to change it. Still, what is so attractive about freedom? How do you forgive yourself for your mistakes if you believe they are the result of your choices? Knowing I am inevitable allows me to operate with true freedom. I don't judge myself for what I do because it is simply what I have done, am doing, and will be doing until I no longer exist. What is so attractive about believing you have control? And if that illusion of freedom is so attractive, why do people enjoy roller coasters? These are the true mysteries of life. But, if you must know, the answer to both questions is the arousal of fear. Sorry it's not more enticing.
Hillary's absolute favorite episode of the acclaimed hit show Color Sample Wars when Electric Lime couldn't visually harmonize with a corncob.
